Abstract. The article presents an analysis of the interpretations and semantic meanings of the concept of “knowledge society”. The relevance of the issue under study is due to the fact that building a knowledge society is a program of socio – cultural modernization, where human activity is increasingly regulated by knowledge as it develops. The author substantiates the idea that at present there are drastic changes that lead to the dominance of knowledge as a factor of social development.
